Omer Sharif laid to rest at Abdullah Shah Ghazi graveyard

Legendary comedian Omer Sharif has been laid to rest at Abdullah Shah Ghazi’s graveyard.

The funeral prayers were offered at Umer Sharif Park in Clifton Wednesday afternoon. They were led by Maulana Bashir Farooqi.

A large number of people arrived at the park to pay their last respects to the late comedian. Actors Rambo, Saud, and PSP’s Mustafa Kamal were in attendance as well.

Omer’s body was moved to his residence in Gulshan-e-Iqbal from the Edhi morgue. It was brought back to Karachi from Istanbul in the early hours of Wednesday.

Omer’s family acquired his body following the procedures required at the cargo terminal, from where it was taken to the morgue. It was wrapped with a Pakistani flag and showered with petals.

A large number of people gathered at Omer’s residence to offer their condolences.

Saeed Ghani said that he visited Omer’s family two days back and said he would want an institute in the name of Omer Sharif for young people. Ghani has pledged support to the late comedian’s family and called on people to attend his funeral in large numbers.

Jawad, Omer Sharif’s son, said that Maulana Bashir Farooqui would lead the funeral prayers. They were expected to be offered at 3pm today, Wednesday, at Umer Sharif Park in Clifton, Block 2.

Omer Sharif passed away at the age of 66 on October 2, 2021, two days after he was hospitalised in Nuremberg with pneumonia. He was suffering from cardiac complications and a kidney infection.
