There has been a knife attack on an Intercity Express (ICE) train between the southern German cities of Regensburg and Nuremberg.

Several people were injured, according to the police.

The train is currently at a standstill in the town of Seubersdorf in the Upper Palatinate region of the state of Bavaria, a spokesperson for the Federal Police said on Saturday morning.

According to the Upper Palatinate police headquarters, the police were informed at around 9 am (0800 GMT) “that there were to be attacks on passengers in an ICE. The police were able to arrest a male person shortly afterwards. According to initial information, several people were injured.”

There is currently no longer any danger, the police said.

“At the moment, there is no further information about the persons involved.” A large number of police officers were at the scene.

A spokesman for German rail operator Deutsche Bahn said the Regensburg-Nuremberg railway line had been closed since about 9 am. “At the moment, trains are being held back at suitable stations.”
