PDM to hold rallies before December ‘long march’ on Islamabad

Lahore (HRNW) The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has held a meeting to map out a strategy against the rising inflation and the government’s plans to push controversial legislation through a joint session of the Parliament scheduled for November 10.

The virtual meeting on Saturday decided to hold anti government rallies in the provincial capitals over the issue of inflation. The rallies would culminate in a “long march” on Islamabad, the opposition alliance agreed.

It comes as Prime Minister Imran khan convenes a meeting of the federal cabinet on Tuesday (a day before the joint session) to discuss a counter-strategy.

The PDM meeting was attented by leaders of the opposition parties Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Awais Noorani, Akhtar Mengal, Aftab Sherpao, Jehanzeb Jamaldini, Tahir Bizenjo and others, who participated via video link. Fazlur Rehman presided over the meeting. He is in his hometown of Dera Ismail Khan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

A statement issued at the end of the meeting announced that the first rally against the government over rising inflation would be held in Karachi on November 13. The second would be held in Quetta on November 17, and the thirds in Peshawar November 20.

After the final rally in Lahore, there would a long march on Islamabad in December, according to the PDM statement.
