Germany coach nominates trio after coronavirus blow and injuries

Germany coach Hansi Flick has nominated an additional three players for upcoming World Cup qualifiers after losing five squad members in connection with the coronavirus and two more with injury.

The German Football Federation (DFB) said that Wolfsburg duo Ridle Baku and Maximilian Arnold plus Monaco striker Kevin Volland would join the squad for Thursday’s game in Wolfsburg against Liechtenstein and on Sunday in Armenia.

The news means that Flick now has 24 players at his disposal.

The DFB said earlier that one player has tested positive for the coronavirus and was in isolation with four others who were rated direct contacts. Names were not given. In addition, Florian Wirtz and Nico Schlotterbeck are unavailable owing to injury, the DFB said.
