RB Leipzig call off training after positive coronavirus test

RB Leipzig cancelled training on Tuesday due to a positive coronavirus case among the staff, club sources told dpa.

Leipzig visit Union Berlin on Friday in the Bundesliga.

Coach Jesse Marsch and captain Peter Gulacsi tested positive at the start of last week.

After the Champions League game in Bruges, which they won 5-0, positive tests for Yussuf Poulsen, Hugo Novoa, Mohamed Simakan and Willi Orban were confirmed.

Staff members were also affected, meaning nine in total were infected. The depleted side then lost 3-1 at home to Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga at the weekend.

The club say all players and staff are fully vaccinated or have recovered from the virus.

Leipzig are not allowed fans at the moment because of surging cases in their state of Saxony.
