Sane and Upamecano the latest as Bayern have eight coronavirus cases

Winger Leroy Sane and defender Dayot Upamecano are the latest Bayern Munich players to test positive for the coronavirus and will miss their season restart on Friday.

Bayern said in a brief statement that “both players are well and are self-isolating.”

Leaders and champions Bayern now have eight players in isolation after positive tests, the others being Lucas Hernandez, Tanguy Nianzou, Manuel Neuer, Kingsley Coman, Corentin Tolisso and Omar Richards. Assistant coach Dino Toppmöller has also contracted the Sars-CoV-2 virus.

Bayern start the second half of the season on Friday against Borussia Moenchengladbach but the game could be in danger should further positive cases occur. A team can apply for a match to be postponed if it has less than 15 players available, with the final decision then with the German Football League (DFL).
