Controlling street crime is the biggest challenge: Karachi Police Chief

KARACHI: (HRNW) Additional IG Karachi Ghulam Nabi Memon says that controlling street crime is the biggest challenge for Karachi police at present. For this purpose, performance testing has been started at police station level.

Karachi Police Chief Ghulam Nabi Memon while addressing all senior and junior officers posted in Karachi Range at Sindh Boys Scouts Auditorium announced to award prizes and certificates of appreciation on monthly basis to the best performing SOs in Traffic Police.

He said that the primary responsibility of the traffic police is to maintain the flow of traffic. Only the SO will challan, its positive results are coming to light, the people have direct contact with the traffic police, so be a source of relief for the people.

He said that any SHO would be removed not because of the incident but because of corruption and failure to arrest the accused.

Ghulam Nabi Memon said that serious steps are being taken to meet the shortage of personnel in the police stations. Immediate cases should be registered at the police station on the arrival of a citizen victim of crimes like street crime. Strict departmental action will be taken against the police officer violating this order.

He said that a large number of drug addicts are involved in street crimes. A transparent policy has been formulated for the deployment of SHOs in the city which is showing positive results.

The Karachi Police Chief also directed the Senior Command of Karachi Police to devote one full day a week to listening to the problems of subordinate employees and resolving them.
