Pakistani students stranded in Ukraine cities under Russian attack

Kyiv (HRNW) About 15 Pakistani students have been stranded in the Ukrainian city of Sumy which has come under Russian occupation since Thursday. The Russian forces are not allowing them to leave the city and have beaten at least one of them, it emerged on Saturday.

Another 600 students are in cities facing Russian assault.

In an update on Saturday afternoon, the Pakistan embassy said that a total of 7,000 Pakistanis were living in Ukraine including 3,000 students. Most of them had already left the country before the Russian attack, but 600 students remain in Ukraine.

The students in Sumy have appealed for help in videos posted on social media. They have accused the Pakistani diplomatic mission in Ukraine of letting them down. Students from other areas of Ukraine have also aired complaints against the embassy.

Sumy lies about 40kms from the Russian border and was among the first cities to be taken over by Russian forces after they invaded Ukraine early morning on Thursday.

He said there were 18 to 20 students in Sumy. He requested everyone to flag the issue on mainstream media.
