UO celebrates World Wildlife Day

Okara (HRNW) The University of Okara’s Departments of Wildlife & Ecology and Zoology jointly organized a seminar and an awareness walk in connection with the World Wildlife Day.
The keynote speaker of the seminar, Prof Dr Muhammad Wajid, Chairman, Faculty of Life Sciences, delivered a lecture on the UO’s initiatives about the breeding and conservation on keystone species as per the vision of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Muhammad Zakria Zakar.
He told that his faculty was actively working on establishing different research centers to ensure maximum environmental sustainability in the region. “In order to restore the balance of the ecosystem, we need to conserve and breed various keystone species that has a significant role to play in the natural environment.”
Dr Wajid emphasized the need to conserve the native wolf species of the Punjab province as this animal was on the verge of extinction.
Dr Muddasir Hassan Abbasi, In-Charge, Department of Wildlife & Ecology, while addressing to the seminar, thanks the UO administration for providing state-of-the-art research facilitates to the students. He also highlighted the role of biotechnology for modern conservation approaches.
He further said that his department was going to establish wildlife enclosures to conserve various keystone species for research purposes.
