PM Khan names former CJ Gulzar as interim prime minister

Islamabad (HRNW) Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry on Monday revealed the name of former chief justice Gulzar Ahmed as the caretaker prime minister after President Arif Alvi sent letters to Prime Minister Imran Khan and opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif seeking a name for the interim position.

The Core Committee of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has proposed the name of Gulzar, who retired on February 1, 2022, after the approval from Prime Minister Imran Khan, PTI leader tweeted.

Earlier in the day, President Alvi had sent letters to PM Imran Khan and opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif for the appointment of a caretaker prime minister.

The development came a day after President Alvi dissolved the National Assembly on the advice of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The letter said that PM Imran Khan will continue as the chief executive of the country till a caretaker prime minister is appointed.

Shehbaz Sharif, on the other hand, said he would not reply to the president’s letter. “President violated the constitution and we are fighting for the supremacy of the constitution,” PML-N leader added.

He was addressing the media in Islamabad, saying that “we are the protectors of the constitution”.

In case the two politicians failed to reach a consensus over the name within three days, each one of them will send two names to the parliamentarian committee.
