German Bundestag President Bas arrives in Kiev

German Bundestag President Bärbel Bas arrived in Kiev on Sunday.

She plans to take part in the commemoration of the end of World War II in Europe 77 years ago.

The Social Democrat (SPD) politician is the second-highest representative of Germany after the president and thus the most important German politician to visit Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion.

She came at the invitation of Ukrainian parliamentary speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk.

The SPD politician will lay wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and at the Memorial to the Murdered Ukrainian Jews in Babyn Yar on behalf of the German Bundestag.

Bas and Stefanchuk plan to commemorate all civilian and military victims of World War II together. A meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is also planned.
