Frankfurt receive more than 100,000 ticket applications for EL final

Eintracht Frankfurt fans have made “far more than 100,000 ticket applications” for the Europa League final, with only 10,000 tickets available for them against Rangers in Seville on May 18.

“We expected a big inquiry wave but this interest within 48 hours is simply gigantic and exceeds all our expectations,” board member Axel Hellmann said in a club statement late Monday.

Hellmann said that while the club is delighted with the huge interest and will do their best to get tickets for as many fans as possible “we also know that many will be disappointed.”

Public viewing in their home stadium was expected to sell out later Tuesday and Hellmann said he expects that “tens of thousands will accompany us” to Spain.

Last month, more than 25,000 Frankfurt fans attended the team’s quarter-final return leg at Barcelona.

Frankfurt are playing in their first European decider since 1980 when they won the then two-legged UEFA Cup final against German rivals Borussia Mönchengladbach.
