Olaf Scholz confrenece on the South African-made coronavirus vaccines

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa appealed for other countries to buy the coronavirus vaccines produced in South Africa during a joint press conference in Pretoria with visiting German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Ramaphosa thanked Germany for its assistance in setting up a production facility for coronavirus vaccines.

“However, these efforts have suffered a setback,” Ramaphosa said. “While we started vaccine production in South Africa last year, we now find that there are no buyers for vaccines that are produced in Africa.”

“Now, this is a matter of great concern to us, and this is an area that should also concern you. We believe that vaccines destined for Africa should be produced in Africa,” the South African president said.
