Berlin (dpa) – Alexander Zverev will miss Wimbledon and could even be sidelined for many more months, depending on a final diagnosis on his ankle injury, his brother has said.
World number three Zverev, 25, sustained the injury when he rolled his ankle during Friday’s French Open semi-final against Rafael Nadal.
He spoke of several torn ligaments on social media and final examinations took place in Munich on Monday, with a result yet to be announced.
his brother, Mischa Zverev, told Tuesday’s Bild paper that “Wimbledon is out of the question, that is clear,” with the London grand slam starting on June 27.
“If only one or two ligaments are torn he could run again next week. If it is many [ligaments] it could take months,” Mischa Zverev said.
In that case Zverev could also miss the final major of the year, the US Open starting on August 29 in New York.
