PDM submits no-confidence motion against Punjab CM, speaker, deputy speaker

LAHORE (HRNW) The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) led by Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) on Monday submitted a no-confidence motion against Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi.

No trust motion was also moved against Punjab Assembly Speaker Muhammad Sibtain Khan and Deputy Speaker Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi.

The no-confidence motion was submitted to the Punjab Assembly Secretariat. The move has been dubbed by political analysts as an attempt to delay the process of dissolution of the provincial assembly.

PTI leader Babar Awan said the opposition would have to prove their majority in the Punjab Assembly. “They will not be able to prove their majority. If they could do that then Hamza Shehbaz would have been the chief minister,” he said.

The Punjab governor, Muhammad Baligh ur Rehman, has signed the order summoning the provincial assembly at 4:00 pm on Wednesday (December 21), requiring the chief minister of Punjab to obtain a vote of confidence in terms of Article 130 (7) of the constitution of Pakistan. The order has been sent to the Punjab Assembly secretary.
