PPP usurps the LG polls by gerrymandering: Waseem Akhtar

KARACHI: (HRNW) Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Waseem Akhtar said Tuesday that the Sindh government and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) pre-planned rigged the LG polls in Karachi and Hyderabad on January 15 adding that gerrymandering took place.

He was addressing a presser in response to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) lead in the results of the LG polls.

Waseem Akhtar said that the nation and the political parties have the right to raise the question to the ECP over the maneuvering in the elections.

“It was the responsibility of the ECP to consider our reservations. It is obvious that Sindh government pre-planned rigged the elections with ECP’s involvement.”

Akhtar said that MQM raised its voice at all forums and moved as per the law despite being ignored.

He while touching on the general election 2023, said that the recent polls have given birth to doubts about the performance of the electoral body and their expected performance in the upcoming elections that will take place across Pakistan.

“The recent LG polls will be remembered in history, the way you conducted it is condemnable,” he added.

The MQM-P leader also thanked the people of Karachi and Hyderabad for staying with MQM and boycotting the polls and said pre-poll rigging was done by PPP and gerrymandering took place.

“Post-poll rigging was carried and ECP delayed the result to show increased voter turnout.”

While condemning the LG polls process he said that the world is making fun of the recent election and the way the polls were conducted.
