Imran Riaz returns home safely after going missing for five months

LAHORE (HRNW) Journalist Imran Riaz Khan reunited with his family after he remained missing for nearly five months.

The news of Khan’s safe recovery was shared by the Sialkot police on social media platform X early Monday. “Journalist/Anchor Mr Imran Riaz Khan has been safely recovered. He is now with his family,” reads the post.

The television anchor was taken into custody in Sialkot a couple of days after the May 9 violent protests which erupted in various cities of the country following the arrest of the PTI chief in a corruption case.

The journalist was released from the district jail on May 12 and later he left the place by a private car. An official also informed the Lahore High Court (LHC) on May 15 that the anchorperson was freed from jail after he gave an undertaking in writing.

Despite his release from the district jail on May 12, he remained missing since them. A petition for his recovery was also filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC).

After several orders issued by court for producing the journalist in court, the IHC judge gave “a last opportunity” to the Punjab police to recover Riaz by Sept 26.

Imran Riaz Khan’s lawyer Ali Ashfaq also congratulated him on his release. “By God’s special blessing, grace, and mercy, I have again brought back my prince”.

He said the anchorperson’s release took a lot of time due to weak judiciary and legal lacunae.
