KARACHI (HRNW) – Religious parties Wednesday ended their sit-in at Numaish Chowrangi area of Karachi on 4th day of the protest, after detained party workers were released by the government. M.A Jinnah road blocked earlier by protesters has also been opened for traffic after successful dialogue.
Advisor to Chief Minister (CM) Sindh on Religious Affairs Abdul Qayyum Soomro stated that the demonstrators had ended their protest in peaceful manner. He added that the government had taken no such steps which could have escalated the conflict.
Speaking on the occasion, Sunni-Tehreek Spokesperson stated that they welcomed the government’s decision to release the detained party workers. He added that other detained workers should be released as well and cases against them be dismissed.
However, the announcement by the religious leaders of ending the protest created chaotic scenes as protesters split in two groups. Confusion further gripped the demonstrators as one of the groups tried to open the blocked M.A Jinnah road while the other started pelting them with stones for removing thebarricades.
Protest in Islamabad was earlier called off and the demonstration ended. Administration in Karachi had waited for the decision of talks in Islamabad but even after a successful dialogue in the Federal Capital, demonstrators in Karachi had announced to continue the protest until arrested demonstrators were released and removal of the cases was ensured.
