Berlin (dpa) – The German government on Wednesday named professors Monika Schnitzer and Veronika Grimm as the newest members of its five-member Council of Economic Experts, which advises ministers.
The German cabinet decided the new appointments at its Wednesday meeting, the Economy Ministry said.
The move comes just days after the council submitted a special report on the economic consequences of the coronavirus crisis on the German economy.
Schnitzer, who is attached to the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, and Grimm, of Nuremberg’s Friedrich Alexander University, have yet to be formally appointed by the German president.
The council, set up as a statutory body in 1963, presents regular reports on the overall development of the German economy from an expert and independent viewpoint.
Economy Minister Peter Altmaier said the two professors would “expand the council’s expertise in innovation and competition policy, as well as the design of the energy market.”
