Germany defender Klostermann renews Leipzig contract till 2024

Germany defender Lukas Klostermann has renewed his contract at RB Leipzig by three years until 2024, the Bundesliga club said on Friday.

Klostermann, 23, came to Leipzig six years ago from VfL Bochum, achieved promotion into the Bundesliga in 2016 and won his first of now eight Germany caps last year.

“I have been here in Leipzig for years and I have developed a lot here, personally and as a player. I look back on a successful journey so far with the club; there is so much potential for more success in the future and I want to be a part of it,” Klostermann said.

Sports director Markus Kroesche named the centre and right back “one of our most consistent players.

“He is very versatile, which gives us many options. Lukas is very important to us and we’re convinced that the team will continue to grow.”

Long-time season leaders Leipzig are third in the standings ahead of the May 16 restart, five points behind top-ranked Bayern Munich. They are also in the Champions League quarter-finals.
