Member quits Cologne over mosque on shirt, Bayern probe racism

Cologne have parted company with a club member who objected to a mosque being depicted on the club’s jersey, while fellow Bundesliga side Bayern Munich are investigating allegations of racism in their youth academy.

Cologne said on Twitter on Tuesday that they “happily accept the cancellation” of the fan’s membership. The member had written to the club saying: “I can not identify myself with mosques and Muslims.”

Alongside Cologne Cathedral, the river Rhine and other city landmarks, Cologne’s new jersey also has a depiction of a mosque woven into the fabric.

Meanwhile, Bayern have confirmed to dpa that the club are investigating allegations of racism against an employee at their youth academy.

The matter concerns alleged chat content in a WhatsApp group.
