Bayern work to have 24,000 fans back in the stadium

Bayern Munich are currently working with a hygiene concept that could allow around 24,000 fans back in the Allianz Arena, the club reported on Friday.

“You have to work on a hygiene concept to be able to say how many people you can have in the stadium,” said board member Jan-Christian Dreesen.

“We would be happy to start with 5,000 fans, although the concept might allow 24,000.”

The calculation is based on the 70,000 seats in the Allianz Arena, in which the fans should keep a safe distance of 1.5 metres from each other during the coronavirus pandemic.

Part of the concept also includes a fixed division of the stadium in sections to optimize the way fans go around the arena.

“We would like to play in front of our fans again, but we are not demanding anything”, added Dreesen.

Defending champions Bayern Munich open the new Bundesliga season at home to Schalke on September 18.
