Rummenigge: Bayern officials will maintain distance at matches

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has promised the club’s leadership will maintain social distance from each other while watching matches in future after being pictured together in Friday’s Bundesliga opener.

“We are all agreed that the picture was not exemplary,” he told Sky television on Sunday. “We will change that.”

Both Bayern and Schalke officials, in their separate delegations, sat together without distance in the Allianz Arena while viewing the game Munich won 8-0.

Rummenigge said there had been a misunderstanding of coronavirus rules after his designated successor Oliver Kahn told broadcaster ZDF the officials had followed local guidance in Bavaria.

“At the next game we will maintain the necessary distance if that is desired,” said Rummenigge.

The match was played behind closed doors at short notice rather than in front of 7,500 fans due to an increase in the number of coronavirus infections.
