Boateng to appear in court over bodily harm charge

Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng has been given a December 10 court date to answer a charge of bodily harm, a spokesperson for the Munich district court said Tuesday.

There was no comment from Boateng but according to reports from broadcaster WDR and the Sueddeutscher Zeitung paper, his defence lawyers said last year that is was a private matter based on unproven claims by third parties.

Prosecutors allege Boateng injured his ex-girlfriend during an argument while the pair were on holiday.

The indictment was served in February 2019 and approved in December last year, the court spokesperson said, but a trial date was delayed by Boateng only responding after charges were brought and the coronavirus pandemic.

Boateng, 32, has played with Bundesliga champions Bayern since 2011 but is out of contract after the current season.
