Inflation and unemployment will undermine parents’ capacity to educate daughters: Dr Zakar

Okara (HRNW)- All over the world, especially in the developing countries, when household economy gets a setback, girls education is the first casualty, argued the Vice Chancellor University of Okara Prof Dr Muhammad Zakria Zakar while addressing to the students and faculty.

Dr Zakar observed that the families with limited income were finding it difficult to send their daughters to universities. “Due to inflation and COVID-driven unemployment, there are slightly lesser number of girls admission in universities. Understandably, if the entire family’ monthly income is less than twenty thousand rupees, how could the basic necessities be met, not to speak of university education”, said the VC.

He further maintained that the Goverment must support and subside girls education at all cost. “If we allow millions of girls without education, it is the worst social and economic catastrophe, because the society can never achieve any development indicator without women participation.”

Within this context, Prof Zakar highlighted the significance of Ehsaas Scholarship for university students. He suggested that a special Ehsaas program should be introduced to support the educational expenses of girls from limited income families.

“It is an established fact that one dollar invested on girls education will yield millions of dollar benefit to the nation.
