Authorities remove 19 huskies from run-down flat in Germany

Nineteen Siberian huskies were found in a run-down flat in western Germany by animal rescue services at the weekend.

The dogs, who were removed from the apartment in the city of Krefeld on Saturday night, were in good shape, according to Jeff Schmelzeisen, from the local animal shelter, on Sunday.

Neighbours had called authorities about the dogs after they were seen jumping against the windows.

Schmelzeisen said that he could not remember another case where so many animals were taken from one household at once.

“They seem healthy at first glance, but we have to take a closer look at them,” added Schmelzeisen, who said that officials had to decide what the dogs’ future will hold.

It’s possible that the owner could get the dogs back under certain conditions, or that they will be placed with other families. With the dogs, the shelter is now at full capacity.
