Frankfurt (dpa) – The next Bundesliga season 2021/22 will start on August 13, 2021, German football federation (DFB) said on Friday after their board meeting.
In contrast to the current season, which started around a month later on September 18 due to the coronavirus pandemic, the league will kick off on its standard period.
Teams should then play 17 matches before an unusual short winter break starting after matchday 17 on December 17-19. The league resumes on January 7, 2022 for another 17 games. The final matchday is scheduled for May 14
German Cup will have the first round on August 6-9 and the final will take place in the Berlin Olympic Stadium as usual on May 21, 2022.
DFB hasn’t announced any plans for the 2022/23 season but it should start a bit earlier as it will be interrupted from November 21 to December 18 due to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The second and third leagues will kick off on July 23.
