Schalke keepers Ronnow and Faehrmann doubtful for Leverkusen game

Dusseldorf (dpa) – Schalke goalkeepers Frederik Ronnow and Ralf Faehrmann are uncertain to play at the Bundesliga game against Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday.

Left-back Bastian Oczipka and centre-back Ozan Kabak could also be sidelined, coach Manuel Baum told a news conference on Friday.

“All four of them are battered,” Baum said.

In case the keepers are not available, Michael Langer should take the position even though he played his last competitive match three years ago.

“Michael has trained and I would have no problem letting him play,” Baum said. “We spoke with Frederik this morning, and will do the same with Ralf. We will then decide which goalkeeper we can call up from the under-23.”

In addition defender Salif Sane, forwards Goncalo Paciencia and Ahmed Kutucu, and winger Rabbi Matondo will all miss the match.

Schalke are in a win-less run of 25 Bundesliga games. Baum is convinced his players understand how serious the situation is.

“The most important thing is to develop the belief that we will win another game,” the coach added.
