Union Berlin extend contract of coach Fischer

Union Berlin have extended the contract of coach Urs Fischer and his assistant Markus Hoffmann, the Bundesliga club said Tuesday with giving further details.

Fischer led the team to a first-ever Bundesliga promotion in his maiden 2018/19 season with the Koepenick team and kept them in the top-flight last term.

“The decision to sign up Urs Fischer has proven to be absolutely right for Union Berlin,” said club president Dirk Zingler.

“Together with his team of coaches, he is making a decisive contribution to establishing Union in the Bundesliga and developing the club even further.”

This season Union have lost only twice in the league and sit sixth in the table with 16 points from 10 games.

“In recent years, we have experienced great things together here and celebrated successes,” said Fischer. “I have felt at home at Union from the very beginning and I still do so today.”
