Simple draws for Dortmund and Leipzig in German Cup

Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig face second-division opponents at home in the third round of the German cup drawn on Sunday, and so would holders Bayern Munich if they advance to the last 16.

Dortmund play Paderborn and RB Leipzig take on Bochum in the round set for February 2 and 3 en route to the May 13 final in Berlin.

Bayern would also be at home, against Darmstadt, provided they first win their second-round game on January 13 at second-tier Kiel.

Wolfsburg v ailing Schalke and VfB Stuttgart v Borussia Moenchengladbach are the only all-Bundesliga match-ups, while Cologne visit Regensburg and Werder Bremen face Greuther Fuerth.

Fourth-tier Rot-Weiss Essen play the winner of the January 12 match between Bayer Leverkusen and Eintracht Frankfurt, hoping for a third upset after eliminating Bundesliga side Arminia Bielefeld and second-division Fortuna Dusseldorf.

“It is a great draw. Not the draw we wanted but we will take it as it comes. I would prefer Frankfurt,” Essen coach Christian Neidhart told broadcasters ARD.
