Stuttgart coach Matarazzo gets contract renewal until 2024

VfB Stuttgart have renewed the contract of coach Pellegrino Matarazzo by two years until 2024, the Bundesliga club said on Friday.

Materazzo became Stuttgart coach in December 2019 when they were in the second division. He led the 2007 champions back into the top flight where they are currently in mid-table.

“Rino has completely fulfilled our expectations from day one. He identifies with VfB and our chosen path of playing attractive and successful football with young and promising players,” Stuttgart CEO Thomas Hitzelsperger said in a statement.

Matarazzo did not want to comment news reports the new contract contained a release clause which could be activated in 2023.

In the statement, he said: “I’m very happy at VfB. The work with the coaching staff, backroom staff and obviously with the players is a lot of fun. I thank the VfB hierarchy for their trust and am looking forward to the future.”
