Germany expect to play despite coronavirus case at opponents Latvia

Germany are expected to play Latvia as planned later on Monday in their final Euro 2020 tune-up game, despite a positive coronavirus test of one Latvian player.

A spokesman for the German federation DFB said “we expect the game will take place as planned as long as the health office doesn’t initiate further measures.”

The Latvian FA had tweeted earlier that one of its players, who was not identified, tested positive for the Sars-CoV-2 virus. It said all necessary measures were taken to isolate the player along with his closest contacts, and to gather all information.

Latvia said that all previous tests for the player and the rest of the team were negative, and that new tests were now being carried out.

“We are preparing for the game and at the same time are waiting for further instructions from the local authorities,” the Latvian camp said.

Broadcasters Sport1, who first reported the case, were told by the health authorities in Dusseldorf, where the game is to be played, that they are in close contact with the DFB.
