K Electric agrees to collect tax for KMC

Karachi (HRNW) Administrator Karachi says that K Electric has written a letter to the Energy Department regarding tax collection for Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC).

The Karachi Administrator has written a letter to the Energy Department on the issue of tax collection of Karachi citizens. The letter was written by Karachi Metropolitan Commissioner Afzal Zaidi to the Sindh government’s energy department on the instructions of Administrator Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab.

According to the text of the letter, K Electric has agreed to collect taxes for KMC. The federal government should also assist NEPRA in obtaining permission and concluding an agreement.

According to the letter, KMC has been levying municipal utility tax since 2008. However, the desired tax targets are not being achieved. The text of the letter states that under the Sindh Local Government Act, KMC can collect taxes through any third party.
