DFB: Munich defender Suele tests positive for coronavirus

Bayern Munich defender Nikas Suele is the Germany player who has tested positive for the coronavirus, the German Football Federation (DFB) has said.

Suele tested positive as the national team gathered for World Cup qualifiers against Liechtenstein and in Armenia and must now isolate. The DFB had said earlier the positive player was fully vaccinated and showed no symptoms.

Munich team-mates Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry and Jamal Musiala as well as Salzburg’s Karim Adeyemi have also been ordered to quarantine because they were in close contact with Suele, and despite negative tests.

Kimmich had recently said he was not vaccinated because he had some concerns, but would rule out getting the jab in the future. His statements sparked a debate over vaccination in football and other sports, amid steeply rising infection rates in Germany.
