Christmas tree erected in front of Chancellery in Berlin

The Christmas tree, this year a fir tree from the central German state of Thuringia, has been erected in front of the Chancellery in Berlin.

The Colorado fir, which is about 15 metres tall, was delivered on a low-loader on Saturday, Larissa Schulz-Trieglaff from the Federation of German Forest Owners’ Associations told dpa.

The tree was then erected in the courtyard in front of the Chancellery with the help of a crane.

On Wednesday, representatives of the associations plan to hand over the tree donated by the Forest Owners’ Association for Thuringia formally to Angela Merkel, the acting chancellor, together with an oak chess piece.

The working group of German Forest Owners’ Associations presents a Christmas tree to the Chancellery every year, with the federal state it comes from changing each year. In 2020, a tree from Hesse decorated the main courtyard.

Independently of this, Thuringia has always supplied the Christmas tree for the city’s landmark Brandenburg Gate, since 2015.
