Leipzig without injured Forsberg, free Saracchi

RB Leipzig were dealt another blow in their disappointing campaign on Sunday when last season’s Bundesliga runners-up said they would be without attacking midfielder Emil Forsberg for the next eight weeks.

Leipzig said the Swedish star picked up a “muscle injury in his left thigh” in Saturday’s 2-0 shock defeat to Arminia Bielefeld.

Full back Marcelo Saracchi will also be released from his contract, which ran to 2023, on December 31, Leipzig said. The Uruguayan is currently in rehabilitation following a cruciate ligament tear.

Leipzig are ninth in the table, five points off sixth and the last automatic European spot, going into the mid-season break.
