Germany begin World Cup year with Israel and Netherlands friendlies

Hansi Flick’s Germany will begin their build up to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with March friendlies at home to Israel and away to the Netherlands, the governing DFB said Friday.

Israel will visit Sinsheim on March 26 and three days later Germany will take on their historic Dutch rivals in Amsterdam.

“I’m really pleased that our schedule for this World Cup year is now set and we can start preparing properly,” said Flick. “I’m extremely satisfied with our fixture list.”

The trip to the Netherlands, who have also qualified for Qatar, is considered by Flick to be “a great way of seeing where we stand at the start of the year.”

Flick has a 100 per cent record as coach after winning all seven remaining World Cup qualifiers since replacing Joachim Loew last year after the delayed Euro 2020.

But 2022 is likely offer much tougher opposition and even more at stake with a mouth-watering Nations League group pairing Germany with European champions Italy, Euro 2020 conquerors England and Hungary before the World Cup.

“The team will need to continue developing and I’m certain that the players will do all they can to back up their amazing start of seven straight wins under the new coach against the bigger footballing nations now,” said DFB director Oliver Bierhoff.
