Punjab police thinks PUBG promotes violence, want it banned

The Lahore police made a discovery on January 19 of the bodies of a woman and her three children from a house in Kahna. Almost a week later, they found that her eldest son was the murderer.

He had “opened fire on his mother and three siblings. He had been misleading the police the entire time.” He had told the police that his mother and siblings were killed while he was asleep.

An investigator found that the teenager was “addicted” to online game PUBG. His family often tried to stop him from playing it but never succeeded.

On January 19, out of frustration, he shot his family, said the Punjab police spokesperson in a statement. All of them died on the spot. After the murder, the killer went to sleep feeling a sense of accomplishment, the statement added.

He thought that his family would revive just like the players in the game

The teenager told the police that he was under immense stress due to continuous loss on PUBG.

The spokesperson said that the accused thought that his family would revive just like the players in the game.

Now the Punjab police wants the federal and Punjab governments to ban the online game. The police believe that the ban is important to stop the spread of violent behaviour in youngsters. “Youngsters addicted to the game often resort to violence to complete ‘tasks’,” the police said.

The game is all about survival of the fittest. At a time, 100 players enter the game simultaneously. The objective of the players is to survive till all of his or her opponents are killed.
