‘No timeframe’ on comeback for Bayern Munich midfielder Goretzka

Germany midfielder Leon Goretzka will not be rushed into a Bayern Munich comeback, coach Julian Nagelsmann said Thursday.

“There’s no fixed schedule for Leon, and he suffered a slight set-back again last week,” Nagelsmann told a news conference ahead of Saturday’s Bundesliga match with former club RB Leipzig.

“He feels as though there’s something not right with his knee. We can’t put it under too much strain, which is why there’s no timeframe for his return.”

Full back Alphonso Davies also remains unavailable following a light heart muscle inflammation.

“Phonzy is doing well, and I spoke with him last week,” said Nagelsmann. “Of course he’s been a bit bored. Once the four-week period has passed, then we will do further tests. We’ll see what the medical imaging reveals then.”

Goretzka has not played since the 3-2 win at Borussia Dortmund in December while Davies has been out since a 4-0 win over Wolfsburg shortly after.

Nagelsmann can however plan with defender Lucas Hernandez after the World Cup winner took “a small knock” on Wednesday.

Bayern are six points clear at the top of the table and can extend that to nine on Saturday as Dortmund host third-place Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday.
