Forensics link same man to Dr Nausheen, Nimrita Kumari deaths

Larkana (HRNW) The deaths of two medical students, Dr Nausheen Shah and Dr Nimrita Kumari, at the girls’ hostels in Larkana, appear to be linked to one man as fresh forensic evidence has emerged.

Last year, Dr Nausheen Shah was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her hostel room, with a note nearby. She was a fourth-year student at Chandka Medical College, Larkana. The death was declared a suicide initially.

In September 2019, another medical student, Dr Nimrita Kumari, was also found dead, from her hostel, No 2 of Asifa Dental College. Her death was also declared a suicide.

However, in a development Friday, investigators said that forensic analysis had detected a “50% allele” DNA match of sperm and semen found from both victims. One male’s DNA profile discovered from bodily fluid traces and clothing in Nausheen’s examination shared a profile of that found in Dr Nimrita Kumari’s case. This indicated the same man could be behind their deaths.

Initially, the police had arrested two of Namrita’s class fellows in connection with her death. One man who had fled remains unidentified.

The lab recommended to the SSP Larkana blood samples of men associated with the girls’ hostel or those who have to come and go to the hostel be tested.

Under the supervision of a sessions judge of Larkana, a judicial commission has started an investigation into the cases.
