Zahir Jaffer sentenced to death for Noor Mukadam murder

Islamabad (HRNW) An Islamabad sessions court has announced the final verdict in the Noor Mukadam murder case sentencing Zahir Jaffer, the prime suspect, to death and acquitting his parents Zakir Jaffer and Asmat Adamjee.

Jaffer gets various jail terms on three other counts.

Therapy Works CEO Tahir Zahoor and other employees have also been acquitted.

However, two of Jaffer’s servants have each been sentenced to ten years in prison. Mohammad Iftikhar (watchman) and Mohammad Jan (gardener) were accused of aiding Jaffer in the crime. A third servant Jameel Ahmed (cook) has been acquitted.

Zahir Jaffer and his servants, who were present in the courtroom, have been moved to court lock up after the sentencing.

Out of 12 accused, three have been sentenced and nine acquitted.

Zahir Jaffer has also been given various jail terms on three other counts. He has been sentenced to 25 years in jail over raping the victim, ten years over kidnapping her, and one year over wrongful confinement.

The verdict was reserved on Tuesday, February 22, after the prosecution and defence lawyers completed their arguments. Additional Sessions Judge Ata Rabbani heard the case that spanned over four months.

Noor Mukadam, 27, was killed on July 20 at the residence of Zahir Jaffer in Islamabad’s F-7/4 sector. The trial began in October. Zahir, his parents, and servants were among the 12 accused.

Shaukat Mukadam, Noor’s father, thanked media and everyone else who supported the family.

He said he was satisfied with the verdict to the extent of Zahir Jaffer’s sentence but would appeal the acquittal of other accused.

Mukadam said that the verdict dispelled the possibility, if there was any, that one could get away after “murdering someone daughter.”

He said the case was not only about his daughter, but it was a question of serving justice to all daughters of Pakistan.
