Sources: First German Teslas to roll off production line next week

US electric car manufacturer Tesla plans to produce the first cars in its new factory outside Berlin in about a week’s time, according to dpa sources – just two weeks after the local administration gave its final approval to the plant.

The first cars should roll off the production line on March 22, and the first customers are to receive the Tesla cars at an event that day at the site in Grünheide, just east of the German capital.

Tesla boss Elon Musk may also attend the party.

The Teslarati forum for close observers of Musk’s various enterprises reported on the delivery plans and opening event on Sunday.

The state of Brandenburg approved the construction of Tesla’s first car factory in Europe on March 4. Musk decided to add a battery factory to the plans, a process that delayed the production of the first cars while further permissions were sought.
