Kimmich’s Germany squad arrival delayed due to birth of child

Joshua Kimmich will not immediately join up with the Germany squad at the start of the World Cup year as the partner of the Bayern Munich midfielder is about to give birth to their third child.

“Jo is an absolute family man,” the German federation (DFB) quoted manager Hansi Flick saying. “The birth of a child is a quite special moment in life. We hope that he’ll be with us soon if all goes well.”

Germany are gathering in Neu-Isenburg from Monday to prepare for a home friendly against Israel in Sinsheim on Thursday before an away match with the Netherlands three days later.

Without Kimmich coach Flick has 24 players in his squad for the games.

The Bayern star missed the last two World Cup qualifiers in 2021 because he had to isolate as an unvaccinated close contact to team-mate Niklas Süle who had tested positive for the coronavirus.
