Outrage after Hindu girl killed in Rohri for resisting abduction

Rohri (HRNW) An 18-year-old Hindu girl has been murdered in Sindh’s Rohri for resisting an abduction attempt. Thousands of people, both on social media and in the teenager’s neighbourhood, have expressed outrage.

According to police, three men tried to abducted Pooja Kumari from her home and killed her upon resistance.

The main culprit Wahid Bux Lashari has been arrested by the police and an FIR has been registered.

A close relative of the victim told BBC Urdu that Lashari belongs to an influential family. He is the victim’s neighbour and had been harassing her for a long time.

Lashari had recently misbehaved with Kumari in the market. The family reported the incident to the police, but he was released on bail.

After the murder on Sunday, people have protested in Rohri, near Sukkur.

#JusticeForPoojaKumari became the top Twitter trend Tuesday where people demanded stern actions against the accused.

The teenager’s relative and others held a protest in Sukkur and blocked the road. However, after negotiations with the police, the protesters dispersed and the road was opened for traffic.

Ajay Kumar, a relative of Pooja Kumari, told BBC Urdu that not only the Hindu community has expressed outrage but also Muslims in the neighbourhood joined them in the protest and have visited the family to express condolence.

Pooja Kumar was the eldest of her siblings and used to sew clothes to earn some extra income for the family. When the three men broke into her house by scaling the walls, she was working at the sewing machine in her home and had tried to use a pair of scissors to resist the abduction, but was shot in the head by the accused.
