Bundesliga record scoring sub Petersen renews Freiburg deal

Freiburg have renewed the contract of their veteran forward Nils Petersen, the Bundesliga record holder for scoring goals coming off the subs’ bench.

Freiburg gave no contract details such as its length in a statement Friday.

“We gave Nils all the time to allow him to make a good decision. Now we are happy about the extension of this successful and special cooperation,” Freiburg board member sport Jochen Saier said.

Petersen, 33, came to Freiburg in 2015 and is vice-captain at the fifth-placed team who host leaders Bayern Munich on Saturday.

He is the club’s record scorer with 99 goals in 231 matches and his 31 goals after coming on as a substitute are a league record.

“It is no secret that I have had a really good time here and the city has become the centre of my life. But I am looking ahead and want to achieve more with the team,” Petersen said.
