Germany to have two new officials at FIFA and UEFA from 2023

German football federation (DFB) president Bernd Neuendorf and German football league chair Hans-Joachim Watzke are to represent the DFB at world football governing body FIFA and European football ruling body UEFA starting next year.

Neuendorf will be proposed for a seat on the FIFA council, while Watzke is to be put forward for the position at the UEFA executive committee, according to the DFB as it announced the unanimous decision on Wednesday.

The current DFB representatives Peter Peters (FIFA) and Rainer Koch (UEFA) are ready to make their posts available, a statement said.

Koch had already offered to do so immediately after he unexpectedly lost his bid for re-election to the DFB board to Silke Sinning on March 11.

Peters and Koch were originally due to remain in their positions until spring 2025.

According to the DFB, the personnel changes should take place at the beginning of 2023 so that new elections can go ahead as planned at the UEFA Congress next year.

The DFB has already informed FIFA President Gianni Infantino and UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin accordingly to establish the procedure by mutual agreement, the statement said.

“I have great respect for the fact that Peter Peters and Rainer Koch are taking this personal step as a reorientation of the DFB, also at the international bodies,” Neuendorf said.

The UEFA post is not reserved for a German candidate. However, the continental association is interested in having a DFB official representing Germany, hosts of the Euro 2024, in the committee.
