KE blames less supply from national grid for extended loadshedding in Karachi

KARACHI: (HRNW) A spokesperson of the K-Electric (KE) on Thursday said because of less supply from the national grid station, duration of loadshedding had been “temporarily” increased in Karachi.

Sources said the electricity transmission and distribution company had started carrying out unannounced loadshedding in different parts of the metropolis during Ramadan. They said Liaquatabad, Korangi, Khawaja Ajmeer Nagri, Nusrat Bhutto Colony, Malir, Akhter Colony, Kashmir Colony, New Karachi and Surjani Town were facing power cuts during night.

The KE spokesperson said the company was facing a shortfall of about 300 MW from the national grid, which had increased the duration of loadshedding even in low electricity-theft areas to more than six hours.

He claimed that the affected registered consumers had been informed through an SMS by the K-E in this regard. “We apologise over the temporary expansion of loadshedding hours,” the spokesperson said.
