Germany’s Baerbock to host G7 foreign ministers to discuss Ukraine

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock will consult with her counterparts from the G7 group of industrialized nations on Thursday on the global consequences of Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Baerbock is to receive the foreign ministers of Canada, France, Italy, Japan, Britain and the United States at a hotel complex on the Baltic Sea in Schleswig-Holstein. A working dinner is planned for the evening.

According to a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, the foreign ministers of Ukraine and Moldova, Dmytro Kuleba and Nicu Popescu, are also to be present at the talks in Wangels.

According to the spokesperson, the ministers will discuss energy, food security and other aspects of the war, while also touching upon the relations with China and the situation in the Indo-Pacific.

In addition, the situation in Afghanistan, Africa and the Middle East as well as the joint fight against the climate crisis and the coronavirus pandemic are on the agenda.

Germany currently chairs the G7 group. The G7 summit will take place in Bavaria on June 26-28.
