Several injured as train hits bus in southern Germany

By Tatjana Bojic, dpa

A train collided with a bus near the city of Ulm in southern Germany on Tuesday morning, injuring several people, some of them seriously.

Police said there had been a previous traffic accident in the area, causing traffic to slow down.

The bus started going over a level crossing in the Arnegg district at about 8:35 am (0635 GMT) but became trapped when the barriers came down.

The train, carring 74 people, was unable to brake in time and collided with the bus, derailing in the process. The driver was badly hurt, as were two passengers.

The bus was not carrying any passengers. The driver was thrown from the vehicle during the collision and the bus then caught fire.

The train line is currently closed.
