Berlin (dpa) – Borussia Dortmund have confirmed interest from Bundesliga rivals Augsburg in their under-23 team coach Enrico Maaßen but dismissed reports that a deal was close or even completed.
Dortmund sports director Sebastian Kehl told Funke publishing house papers on Sunday night he was “very irritated” that the issue was in the media and a deal far from imminent.
“I only got a phone call on Friday and learnt that Augsburg are interested in signing Enrico Maaßen. Since then there has been exactly one conversation,” Kehl said.
Maaßen, 38, has been Dortmund’s under-23 coach since 2020 and led them into the third division last year.
Augsburg need a new coach in succession of Markus Weinzierl who did not renew his contract after the past season.
